Zooming into Easter

Last weekend for my DSLR practice I decided to use my 75-300mm lens for a variety of zoom shots. I’m really enjoying using the lens, especially when focusing on wildlife subjects.

Enjoy!

Focus in

Every week I try to form a story to tell with the pictures I take. It helps me narrow down the available subjects to something I would actually want to shoot. Judging by the fact that it’s spring, and new life is abundant in the park, I decided to start there. Jumping into the micro world around us I found struggles, triumphs, and plenty of failures.

Life Begins

A new day has dawned, and the mix of biological processes in these plants has made the world change from a dull brown to a bright green.

Life, uh, finds a way…

Even in the harshest of places, plants and animals find a way to poke through and shoot their shot at making the best of their situation.

Shouting!

Nothing says “I’m alive!” quite like the vibrant colors of blooming flowers.

One flower or two is great, but for some plants, being a maximalist suits them better.

I love how these flowers seemed to be floating in the air, as if suspended from fishing wire.

Heading down life’s path.

Life leads us many places. Trails, like the ones in the Ramble, led me to imagine the middle of a lifespan. Filled with both highs and lows.

Not all life is a plant or animal – we can’t forget about the microbes that lay claim to this world too.

Animals, however, can tell a story much faster. Here I present to you…

…a Squirrel.

They’re not just wondering aimlessly. They’re on a mission.

Leaping across twigs from branch to branch, this squirrel has places to be! But why?

A snack, of course!

But why eat dinner on the ground?

The view is always better from higher up.

Not everyone has a snack however, and those who don’t- they’re a little upset.

But fear not. The next snack might be just a climb away.

Not all life.

Not all life gets to make it. Some struggle. Some disappear before they even had a chance to flourish. And some never come out of the ground.

But maybe that’s what spring is all about. Trying new things. New places. New life.
